Development began a few years ago with the goal of making a more strategic, fun, and educational tile matching game. As I looked around I found all tile matching games shared a few common themes - nearly all allowed scoring in a single direction (e.g. across or horizontally) and had traditional square or rectangular tiles.
With this in mind, I began exploring new scoring methods and tile shapes. Ultimately I decided to use hexagonal tiles and incorporate stacking as a means to enhance game play and provide more scoring opportunities. From these basic premises Match 5 was born.
Match 5 consists of 75 colored tiles (red, orange, yellow, green, and blue) with the numbers 1 - 5. There are 3 tiles of every color / number combination as well as 5 Wild tiles. When played, Wild tiles represent any color / number combination as selected by the player placing the tile. The goal of the game is to score the most points by strategically placing your tiles.
