Game rules

Players: 2-6

Ages: 7 and up

Time: 45 -60 min

Goal

Score as many points as you can by placing numeric tiles. Points are scored as tiles are played. Extra point are earned by completing a series of 5. The person with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

Game Start

To start, all players draw five tiles blind from the bag. The person with the highest combined point value (according to the numeric value on the tiles) goes first. Play then continues clockwise.

Game Play

On his turn a player may play one to five tiles. Five tiles must be kept in the hand at all times so if three tiles are played, three new tiles must be drawn from the bag. A player may use her turn to swap out one to five tiles from her hand and draw new tiles from the bag (e.g. if two tiles are discarded two new tiles must be drawn).

Starting an entirely new grouping of tiles not attached to the original group is not permitted at any time during the game. Once a tile has been played, it is not to be moved for the remainder of the game. Play continues randomly as new tiles are placed and no two games ever turn out exactly the same.

One player acts as the score keeper and writes down the points from each players turn. The score keeper is required to keep the score sheet in plain view at all times and must give the cumulative score of any player at any time if asked.

Players may hide their tiles from other players during the game.

Placing Tiles (Horizontal)

Tiles must be placed blank side to blank side and can only be placed next to other tiles with the same color / different number OR same number / different color. Placing tiles together with the same color and same number is not permitted.

Same color series

When a same color series of 5 is completed (e.g. red 3, 2, 1, 5, and 4) the first and last tiles (e.g the red 3 and red 4) are "locked" and play cannot continue horizontally off of either tile. Note that in a same color series the numbers do not have to be connected in numeric order (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) but all numbers must be different. A same color series with a red 3, 2, 3, 1, and 4 would not be permitted. When a valid same color series is completed, locking blocks are used to "lock" the outside surfaces of the red 3 (first) and the red 4 (last) tiles. Play may continue horizontally off of any of the middle three tiles (red 2, 1, and 5).

Same number series

When a same number series of 5 is completed (e.g. red 3, blue 3, green 3, orange 3, and yellow 3) the first and last tiles (e.g the red 3 and yellow 3) are "locked" and play cannot continue horizontally off of either tile. Note that in a same color number series all the colors must be different. A same number series with a red 3, blue 3, green 3, red 3, and yellow 3 could not be permitted. When a valid same number series is completed, locking blocks are used to "lock" the outside surfaces of the red 3 (first) and the yellow 3 (last) tiles. Play may continue horizontally off of any of the middle three tiles (blue 3, green 3, and orange 3).

Stacking Tiles (Vertical)

Tiles can be placed on top of one another to form stacks. Note however that a stack can only extend 5 tiles high at which point a series is completed and the stack becomes "locked" meaning no additional tiles can be placed on it. The same rules that apply to horizontal series apply to vertical series. It is important to note that when stacking tiles, points can be scored horizontally and vertically at the same time. This increases scoring opportunities, raises the strategy level, and increases the fun factor. Please can continue vertically off of any tile at any time. Vertical stacking is allowed on any tile, including first level locked tiles such as the red 3 and yellow 3 in the same number series above.

Wilds

There are five Wild tiles which when played, represent any color / number combination. Wilds:

May be played by themselves on any turn
May be played in combination with other tiles on any turn
May be used to complete a series
Hold zero point value
Only one Wild per turn is allowed
Only one Wild per series is allowed

Scoring

Points are scored according to the number on the tiles. If a series has been started and a player added to that series, the player would earn points for the tiles in the series plus the points for the newly placed tiles. When a player completes a series of 5, she earns an additional 10 points.

Game End

The final round of play is signaled when the first person places his last time. Each player then has the opportunity to make one final play. Any remaining tiles are subtracted from each players total score. For any remaining Wilds subtract 25 points. The score keeper tallies up the points and the player with the highest score wins.
